Occombe Farm

Vegetable market

The new Occombe Farm project in Paignton, Devon, will open its gates to the public this month.

Intended to promote healthy eating and sustainable farming, the Occombe Farm complex is spread over a 150 acres site, which now features a Farm Shop, Café, Bakery, Butchers and Study Centre – as well as a 2km long nature-trail around a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Equally important, however, is that this will be one of the greenest and environmentally friendly ways of shopping in the whole of the UK.

Lots to see and do

Free to visit, and open all year, Occombe Farm will have a broad appeal to families and visitors of all ages. Children, for example, will be encouraged to become involved in the bread-making process and, as well as being able to enjoy the well-marked nature trail, everyone will be able to keep a very close eye on the local wildlife through the careful positioning of webcams around the site.  The 40-seater café, meanwhile, will serve locally-sourced food and drink.

Expected to become a leader in the educational field, in addition to reconnecting people with farming, food and the countryside, Occombe Farm is likely to become one of the 'must-see' places on The English Riviera (www.englishriviera.co.uk/home/index.asp).
