Arriving by sea
Sometimes it is just more convenient to bring your own car on holiday, or maybe you just want a change from flying? If so then one of the routes into the UK by sea maybe the journey for you. Although not exhaustive, we have put together the major routes across the Irish Sea, and provided links to the ferry operators for timetables and prices. We have also put together a few holiday ideas for you to make the most of your time in England.
Situated on the South West tip of Wales, Fishguard and Pembroke are just over 200km from the English border. A perfect entry point for exploring the South West and Heart of England areas, and with good road connections Cheltenham and Bath are both within easy reach.
Just over 100km from the English border, Holyhead is located in the North West corner of Wales. A superb deep water port, connections by road and rail into England’s North West and beyond are superb.
Found in England’s Northwest, Liverpool and its surrounding area makes a fantastic short break destination. Just up the coast is the port of Fleetwood, ideal for exploring areas such as the beautiful Lake District and Blackpool.
With the Lake District and Northumberland national park in easy reach, there is a whole host of things to do, from serious outdoor activities, to taking in a relaxing view.
